Frequently Asked Questions
What information do I need to have gathered for a commissioned piece(s)?
I need pictures! These are used as references or to recreate that unique image into a hand-drawn piece. You can never provide too many. In some cases, I may even ask for a few more if more perspectives are needed.
I also like to know if there is anything specific you want included in your portrait(s). A special shirt, an expression, or even which person you want front and center in a group.
How do I determine the size of my portrait?
Size is dependent on how many elements there are, and you. Example 1, if you have one person as the subject of the portrait, size is up to you. I have done anything from a 4x6 up to a 11x17! Example 2, you have a group of 10 people. That's a little difficult to fit onto a 4x6! In that situation, I would recommend an 8x10 or larger. When we are discussing the scope of the portrait, I am always happy to give my advice.
How long should I expect the commission to take?
Commissions are a 2 week lead time minimum! Once we discuss the scope of your portrait(s), I can better estimate a lead time for your commission. I will always make you aware of my current commission load, and where you would fall approximately on my schedule. If at any point I feel like more time is needed than originally expected, I will give you at least 1 weeks notice before the promised completion date. You can't rush art!
How will I receive my portrait(s)?
All finished portraits are sealed with a matte protective spray finish to prevent any smudging. They are still quite delicate, so handle with proper care! They are shipped or delivered to you in a clear vinyl sleeve and unframed. So don't forget to find the perfect frame for your art! My personal favorite frame style is a floating glass frame.
Can I have my portrait done in color?
I am a strictly black and white artist, color is not my forte!
Pricing?
Each size has a base price. These prices are figured based on how large the piece is, and the elements, plus any additional changes you would like to make after I have begun. I do send one progress image of the drawing over when I am about halfway. This affords you the opportunity to make 1 change if desired with no additional cost. Any changes after this will add additional cost. Once we have discussed your commission in detail, I can better tell how much time it will take to complete. After I have gathered all information from you, I can provide a final price!
I require payment in half up front before I begin, payment is due in full before delivery of the portrait(s). I will send you a watermarked copy of the portrait for you to preview!
Shipping or pickup?
I am based in Wichita, Kansas. I can be super flexible. If it works easier for you to meet me somewhere locally, that is an option. If you can't pickup, I will send your portrait(s) with standard ground shipping (unless you specify otherwise). You are responsible for the added cost of shipping.
